The bag on his head, which sort of looks like a skull? Mwah! Belíssimo! And the nose hole? It looks mammalian, I guess. What a lovely little specter, though! Of course, he’s carrying a little lantern, like any mysterious ghoul who’s worth his money. Actually, I’m not much of a fan of Hobnobs.īut er, where was I? Hobgoblins! Even though Christianity makes them out to be nasty spirits, in a lot of old stories, they’re actually portrayed as helpful! Which brings us to today’s enemy, who is, of course, a helpful support enemy! He supports other enemies, to be clear. Of course, when it comes to silly names, the Hobgoblin has to take the cake! It’s actually a combination of the names of two other mythical rascals: the Hob and the Goblin! But on top of that, it’s just really fun to say. Oogity boogity boo!! Welcome back to the Triple-Feature Hallowe ‘en Extravaganza: Part II! And for this post, I’d like to draw your attention to the classics, because whatever happened to the nasty little men of Halloween? The imps, the gremlins, the boggarts and brownies?
mario mario enemies super mario rpg: legend of the seven stars super mario rpg culex final fantasy? mod f boy You also get to hear the Final Fantasy victory fanfare, which is pretty great.
If you beat him, you get an item that just straight-up makes the game easier. Square did have a pretty big hand in making Super Mario RPG, after all…īut- and this is a pretty big but here- Culex himself isn’t from anything Final Fantasy! He was created for the sole purpose of appearing in a Mario game, and being fought and defeated by Mario! This guy is, undeniably, a Mario enemy! None of our usual shenanigans required! I think that’s pretty silly.Īlso pretty silly is his backstory in the Japanese version: as a two-dimensional sprite person, he’s confused by Mario & co’s three-dimensional forms… it’s those advanced 90s CG rendering skillz! So, he demands a fight, because that’s what we do with things we don’t understand. His boss theme is just a remix of the boss theme from Final Fantasy IV, and, I mean, just look at him.
Nope! This guy here? A big Final Fantasy reference. He’s matter, he’s antimatter, he consumes time, and… wait, we are still talking about the same game, right? Mario? The funny plumbing man? I didn’t stumble onto a different wiki, did I? Debut: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven StarsĮveryone, say hello to Culex! He’s a Dark Knight of Vanda.
